On International Day For The Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we are called to act, to eradicate any forms of racism, strengthening ourselves against any violation that threatens the very foundation of the rights of all humans. Observed annually on the day the police killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid, on this very same day, we are called to stand up for human rights.

A MULTI-LAYERED SYSTEM, BORN OUT OF IRRATIONAL HATE AND EGO

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights and have the potential to contribute constructively to the development and well-being of their societies.” – Principle of Equality

Racism is a multi-layered system embedded deeply in institutions, cultures, policies, and everyday interactions. It deprived a specific group of people of their rights to opportunities, their chances to contribute, or even their contributions. It erases, prisons and even murders them. It’s a hate that’s not born out of controllable matters, such as actions, but uncontrollable ones. A hate toward an entire group of people for something they’re born with, toward those with different skin colors and cultures. An anti-diversity, anti-humanity, grave violation of human rights born out of an irrational ego.

A CALL FOR ACTION

Despite the progress made over the decades, racial discrimination remains deeply entrenched in many societies. From systemic racism in law enforcement and education to economic disparities and social prejudices, racial injustices continue to shape the lived experiences of millions.

The fight against racial discrimination is a collective responsibility. The changes we need can only be realized by ourselves. We can help fight back against racism by:

  1. Support Anti-Racism Initiatives
Support organizations that work towards racial equity and justice through advocacy, community programs, and policy reform.
  2. Speak Back Against Discriminatory Practices
Speak up against racism and discriminatory behaviours in public spaces, institutions, etc.
  3. Promote Inclusivity
Advocate for diverse voices in media, politics, and leadership positions to ensure fair representation and decision-making.

By working towards a future where equality and dignity are not privileges but rights for all, we stand together and build a more just and inclusive world. A world where no one is judged, limited, or discriminated against. A world where diversity is celebrated. Humanity is celebrated.

Let this day be more than just a day of remembrance; let it be a wake-up call for all of us. A call to action for a better tomorrow.

So what are you waiting for?

Let’s make a Goodwill Vow and build a better world with no racism!
